Gamescom 2025 is still underway and we’ve been treated to an incredible wave of game reveals and announcements in the past few hours. One of the biggest surprises was Capcom revealing a new collaboration event for Monster Hunter Wilds, and it looks like they are introducing what could become the toughest monster in the game.

The Omega Planetes

Players are already trembling at the news that the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration will not be bringing Bahamut, Behemoth, or Ifrit, but something far more chaotic and challenging: the Omega Planetes.

Ask any Final Fantasy XIV fan about Omega and they’ll talk endlessly about Starboards and Larboards. With no context, it sounds confusing, but that alone is reason enough to fear what’s coming.

From a lore perspective, Omega has been a recurring figure in several Final Fantasy titles, often appearing as a hidden boss or superboss alongside Bahamut Sin or Behemoth. It’s a towering construct with four limbs, essentially a robot capable of unleashing world-ending power. In XIV, Omega is an alien superweapon with independent AI designed to adapt to any combat encounter.

That spells trouble for Hunters who only have a Sword and Hammer to rely on.

A Raid Boss?

While Capcom has yet to reveal how the Omega Planetes battle will play out, it’s reasonable to expect something in line with a Raid Boss, similar to Monster Hunter World’s Extreme Behemoth, complete with familiar aggro mechanics and devastating one-shot abilities.

In XIV, players already struggle with Omega during raids. This massive construct can unleash a beam that instantly wipes out anyone in its path. It also disrupts flow with Mustard Bombs and leaves behind fiery pools that deal enormous damage. Facing it in Monster Hunter Wilds will almost certainly be brutal, and Hunters will need to carefully study its attacks to survive.

At least we have Seikret Chocobos, right?

The Omega Planetes is set to arrive in Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 3, which is expected to launch in late September. Some fans are also speculating that this might delay the arrival of Gogmazios, a previously leaked monster originally thought to be part of TU3, possibly pushing it to TU4 along with a new endgame mode.

For now, before Omega Planetes lands and crushes us into the ground, it might be best to ask Final Fantasy XIV players for advice. Otherwise, we may find ourselves carting left and right when the update arrives.
