Invincible Vs. Gives Me The Hype I Had For Dragon Ball FighterZ

Invincible Vs and Dragon Ball FighterZ

Maybe it’s the three-on-three gameplay or those color-coded glowing attacks, but there’s something about Invincible Vs that reminds me of Dragon Ball FighterZ. Fans still fondly remember that anime fighter and how it broke barriers for casual fans, giving them a simple, yet satisfying combat system to master. This comic book fighter gives me the same vibes.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t get patched so much that the game barely resembles what it used to be.

Did that sound harsh? It might be too harsh, but that’s because FighterZ doesn’t feel like that same game I fell in love with all those years ago. While some of the patches are a net positive overall, I can’t help but feel nostalgic over a fighting game I barely recognize anymore. Now I’m hoping Invincible can fill that hole.

Tearing Out My Heart

Admittedly, Invincible Vs doesn’t look as newbie-friendly as Dragon Ball FighterZ. Because this game is being developed by a lot of the people who worked on Xbox’s Killer Instinct, it looks like a fighter that needs plenty of skill. That’s not a bad thing, but I do hope this game has a learning curve that makes it accessible to newcomers like FighterZ did.

What’s really appealing is how everything seems simple, aside from those chains of combos. Anti-airs, zoning, footsies, and all those FGC terms look solid here, with a focus on that lovely three-on-three gameplay. Sure, some of the attacks will probably be broken at launch, but we’re sure there will be ways to get over them.

Dragon Ball FighterZ was similar when it first launched, as everything made sense. Using ki-blasts, teleports, and anti-airs was the name of that game. It all made sense, until the game was patched to hell and back. Now you can blast and dash, or dash and blast, even chain two finishers at once, it feels broken.

That’s not a bad thing, but it doesn’t feel the same. It’s why Invincible Vs gives me hope.

Think Mark, Think

Because modern fighting games require patches, we won’t be surprised if Invincible Vs goes through some major changes in the future. That’s all but inevitable, and this writer is going to be prepared for it. I just hope they don’t change it so much that the game starts to feel different, as that’s how this writer dropped out of Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Granted, this isn’t FighterZ specific, as fans have also expressed frustration over Tekken 8. That game launched fine and was tinkered with so much that it’s become unrecognizable, with many fans now calling it a dead title. Bandai Namco still has a lot of fixing to do there, but the point stands; don’t change your game too much.

Invincible Vs looks like it’s going to be fun when it launches in 2026. Let’s hope it stays fun and keeps the game’s identity, which looks pretty good right now.
